I've done this! After making a group, just copy the invite link and send it to people directly鈥攊t's super easy!
Once you create a group, just go to the group info, and there's an option to invite via link鈥攏o need to add everyone manually!
You can't avoid adding at least one contact to create a group. Sorry!
