You can only deactivate it from the web. Go to Instagram.com, sign in, go to your profile, and choose 'Temporarily disable my account'. Easy peasy.
Just did this last week. Log in on a browser, go to 'Edit Profile', and hit 'Temporarily disable my account'. Super straightforward.
