I deactivated my WhatsApp by deleting the app first. Make sure to back up your chats if you want to keep them.
Disabling WhatsApp isn't an option. You can only delete your account or uninstall the app.
To deactivate WhatsApp, you can simply delete the app from your phone. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Account > Delete my account if you want to permanently delete your account.
