You can't deactivate from the app, FYI. Head to the Instagram website, go to your profile, hit "Edit Profile," and scroll down to find the "Temporarily disable my account" link. Done and done!
Quick tip from experience: You'll need to use a computer or mobile browser, not the app. Go to Instagram's website, log in, and visit your profile. Click "Edit Profile" and at the bottom, you'll see "Temporarily disable my account." Pick your reason, re-enter your password and you're all set!
