From my experience, just open the story, tap the three dots, and choose 'Delete Story'. Takes less than 10 seconds!
Head to your story, tap the three dots in the upper-right corner, then tap 'Delete Story'. Adios, story!
Open your story. Tap on the three dots. Select 'Delete Story'. Boom! Done!
Just don't post stories. Problem solved!
