From my experience, the best way is to use the 'Photos of You' section in your profile, remove tags from photos, which effectively removes them from your timeline. Then you can go to each album and delete them manually. It takes a bit longer but it gets the job done.
A quick tip: Use the activity log to manage and delete multiple photos! Head to your profile, click on the three-dot menu and select 'Activity Log.' From there, you can filter by 'Photos and Videos,' check the boxes of the photos you want to delete, and then click 'Delete.'
Sorry folks, no batch delete option on Facebook yet. You have to delete photos one by one. It's tedious but that's the way it is.
