Did it last week, you gotta navigate to 'Settings', 'Personal Information', then 'Contact Info' on Facebook. Remove your number from there and you're set!
Honestly, just go to settings, find your contact info, and delete. Not rocket science!
If you're using desktop: Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information > Contact Info. From there, you can edit or remove your phone number. It's fairly straightforward.
