Destroying altars in Terraria is essential for progress, especially after defeating the Wall of Flesh. You'll need a Pwnhammer or better, which drops from the Wall of Flesh boss. Once you've got that, simply smack those altars! Bear in mind, each one destroyed will bless your world with hardmode ores but also spawn more corruption or hallow, so plan accordingly.

Be careful about where and how many altars you destroy - more isn't always better. Spawning too much corruption can really mess up your world's balance.

Just hit it really hard with a Pwnhammer! Seriously, that's all there is to it. But don't underestimate the corruption spread... it can get wild.
