To disable your Instagram account, log in via a web browser (you can't do this through the app), go to your profile, click 'Edit Profile,' then select 'Temporarily disable my account' at the bottom. Follow the prompts and you're done!

You can't disable it from the app. Log in on a web browser, click your profile, edit profile, and then temporarily disable your account. Done and dusted!
