Just head to Settings > Network Settings and toggle Internet Connection to 'Disable'. You're now flying solo!

Unplug the Ethernet cable or turn off your Wi-Fi router. Old school but effective.

I've done this a million times: just go to Network Settings in the main menu, find Internet Connection, and select 'Disable'. Everything else stays the same.
