Easy peasy! Open the menu, go to the 'Companions' tab, select the companion you want to dismiss, and click 'Dismiss'. Done and dusted!

Go to the Unreliable, talk to the companion you want to ditch, and select the dialogue option to send them back to the ship.

From personal experience, just talk to your companion and nicely suggest they take a break back on the ship. They'll understand; it's space, not a vacation!
