How to Dismiss Companion in The Outer Worlds

Go to the Unreliable, talk to the companion you want to ditch, and select the dialogue option to send them back to the ship.
From personal experience, just talk to your companion and nicely suggest they take a break back on the ship. They'll understand; it's space, not a vacation!
Just go to your Companions menu and select 'Dismiss'. Takes like 2 seconds. You're welcome.
Honestly, why would you ever want to dismiss these awesome companions? But hey, hit the 'Dismiss' button under the Companions tab if you must.
