Just go to Instagram's website, not the app, hit 'Edit Profile', and boom! Hit 'Temporarily disable my account' at the bottom.
You can deactivate your Instagram account by logging in on a web browser, navigating to your profile, clicking 'Edit Profile' and selecting 'Temporarily disable my account' at the bottom. Choose a reason and re-enter your password to confirm!
