It's easy! Just run in one direction, then quickly push the joystick the other way and hit jump. Mario will flip sideways.
To do a side jump in Super Mario 64, run in one direction, quickly push the joystick in the opposite direction, and press the jump button. Mario will do a cool sideways flip!
Takes some practice, but once you nail it, it's super satisfying. Just gotta master that quick direction change and jump timing.
