From my experience, using Light fruit not only gives you insane speed but also leaves those impressive trails behind. Totally worth it!
Just get a special Blox Fruit like Light or Flame, and you'll be zooming around with trails like a boss.
You can't really make trails unless you have specific fruits that give that effect. Hope that helps!
