From personal experience, downloading pictures via the internet browser on the PS3 can be slow. I recommend using a USB stick for a smoother and faster process.

You can also download pictures from the internet browser on your PS3. Just open the browser, find the picture you want, press Triangle, and select 'File' then 'Save Image'.
