Hold the item in your hand and press 'A' to drop it. Just make sure you're not in a no-drop zone!

Just open your inventory, navigate to the item you want to drop, and press 'A'. Easy peasy!

Actually, you can't drop items while inside your base or vehicles. Step outside, then press 'A'.
