I found emoting kinda confusing at first but legit, just holding the touchpad brings up the menu, and you're golden. I once had this hilarious moment where I used the 'salute' emote just as another player was driving towards me. Instead of running me over, they stopped, honked, and saluted back. Emotes can really add to the random encounters in the game, making them more memorable!
