Honestly, just pick a faction and stick with it. The quests will naturally lead you to the Institute. Personally, I went with the Railroad, felt the most satisfying!
Entering the Institute in Fallout 4 is a big moment! You'll need to follow the main questline, which eventually leads you to 'The Molecular Level' quest. Here, you have to build a teleportation device with the help of either the Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, Railroad, or by yourself if you're feeling particularly handy.
