Just click on Peppy and hit 'equip.' It's not rocket science.
Actually had a tough time figuring this out at first, lol. But yeah, just open up your character screen, tap on Peppy, and there should be an 'equip' button. Make sure you're not in combat or anything, cause you can't change gear then. Also, experiment with different combos to see what works best for Peppy!
