Why delete when you can just deactivate? Try the deactivation option first. Trust me, you might want to come back someday.
You need to click on the little down arrow in the top-right corner, select 'Settings & Privacy', then 'Settings', 'Your Facebook Information', and finally 'Deactivation and Deletion'. Select 'Delete Account' and follow the instructions. Easy peasy!
