Honestly, just play more Salmon Run! You can earn ability chunks as rewards there, plus you get to splat some Salmonids. Win-win!
The best way to farm ability chunks in Splatoon 2 is by scrubbing your gear often! Every time you get three slots filled with abilities on a piece of gear, go get it scrubbed by Murch for 20,000 Cash and you'll get all those ability chunks back!
From personal experience, buying gear from SplatNet 2 often gets me gear with duplicate abilities, which means more scrubbing for chunks! It's an effective strategy!
