Based on experience, I usually coordinate with friends via chat and then use the 'Join Game' feature from their profile. Works like a charm!
Honestly, just ask them for the game link or exact name of the game they're in. Saves a ton of time!
If you know the person's username, use the in-game search feature or the friends tab to see if they're online and in a game. Once you find them, simply join their game from their profile!
