I always use the Aurora as a landmark. Swim towards the front right of the Aurora, and you'll see the Mountain Island. Just watch out for Reapers!

To find the Mountain Island in Subnautica, just head directly northeast from your Lifepod. You'll start seeing big rocky formations and eventually reach the island. Happy exploring!
