Grab yourself a spear first! You can craft one with two sticks. Then just get into the water and poke at the fish. Easy-peasy!
Fishing in The Forest is a bit tricky, but patience is key. Approach a fish slowly and then strike with your spear. Take your time!
Don't bother. Hunting animals on land is much quicker and you get more meat. Just go for deer or rabbits instead.
