Try connecting your controller using a USB cable first. Sometimes syncing it via Bluetooth needs a little nudge from the wired connection.

Have you tried resetting the controller? There's a tiny hole on the back of the PS3 controller. Stick a paperclip in there and press for a few seconds. Worked like a charm for me!
