Make sure the charging port on the controller is clean. A little bit of dirt or dust can mess with the connection. A gentle blow or a soft brush should do the trick.
Try resetting the controller by pressing the small reset button on the back near the L2 button using a paperclip or pin. This little trick has saved me a few times!
Hot take: Just buy a new one. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle for the $60 fix.
Plug it into a different USB port on your PS4 or even your computer. You might find it's the port, not the controller itself.
