Actually, you don't really "fly" a Vertibird in the traditional gaming sense. You use Vertibird Grenades to call one to your location, then you just tell it where to go. Think of it as the Fallout version of calling an Uber, not piloting an aircraft.

Oh, you wanna soar the skies in Fallout 4? Well, you can't initially just jump into a Vertibird and take off, but you can use them! First, you gotta progress in the main story or side with the Brotherhood of Steel to get access to Vertibird Grenades. Toss one of those bad boys, and when the Vertibird lands, just hop in and choose your destination from the map. You'll act more like a VIP passenger than a pilot, but hey, it's still cool!

Flying a Vertibird yourself? Nah, Fallout 4 doesn't let you do that. But catching a ride on one is as easy as using a Vertibird Signal Grenade. It's pretty epic to travel that way, not gonna lie.
