To free the monkey in Spyro, you need to reach the Sunny Villa level in Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Once there, you'll find a character named Sgt. Byrd who will assist you. You'll need to complete a series of tasks and then pay a gem fee to Moneybags, who's holding the monkey captive. It's bananas how much he charges, but at least you get the monkey to join your squad!
