It's easy! Just go to the friends icon on the main screen, tap 'Add Friend,' then search for their username and send the request. Ta-da, new buddy!
From personal experience, I find it easiest to use the 'friends' icon on the main screen. Then click 'Add Friend' and enter your friend's player ID. Works like a charm every time!
