Getting a fishing rod in Terraria is pretty straightforward but involves a bit of crafting or exploring. For starters, you can craft the basic Wood Fishing Pole using 8 wood pieces at a Work Bench - super easy and great for beginners. As you progress, aim for the Reinforced Fishing Pole crafted with 8 iron bars or lead bars, giving you a better chance to catch bigger and better things. For the real fishing enthusiasts, seek out the Mechanic NPC during Hardmode to buy the Mechanic's Rod (only sold during moon phases), or test your luck by fishing in the ocean for a chance to catch the elusive Sitting Duck's Fishing Pole from the Travelling Merchant. Happy fishing!

Just grab 8 pieces of wood and hit up a Work Bench. Boom, Wood Fishing Pole. Easy peasy.

Honestly, fishing is overrated in Terraria. Just fight bosses, it's way more fun.
