Shadow Scales are pretty essential if you're looking to craft some of the early game armor and tools. You get them by defeating the Eater of Worlds, a giant worm boss that you find in the Corruption biome. Make sure you're well prepared with decent armor and weapons, cause this worm won't go down without a fight! It helps to create an arena with platforms to easily dodge its attacks.

Eater of Worlds, my friend! That's your one-way ticket to Shadow Scale city. Just break those shadow orbs in the Corruption to summon it, and bam, showtime. Get your potions and weapons ready; it's gonna be a wild ride.

Actually, you only need Shadow Scales if you're playing with a world that has Corruption. If your world spawned with Crimson, you'd be looking for Tissue Samples from the Brain of Cthulhu instead. Same crafting idea, different boss.
