Getting an anvil in Terraria is super easy! First, you need to mine some Iron Ore or Lead Ore from underground - you can find these pretty much anywhere below the surface. Once you've got enough, head back up to the surface and smelt the ore into bars using a furnace. If you're looking at Iron, you'll need 5 Iron Bars to craft an Iron Anvil at a Work Bench. For Lead, it's the same deal - 5 Lead Bars will get you a Lead Anvil. Both anvils work the same, so just grab whichever ore you find first!

Just buy it from the Merchant NPC if you're not feeling the whole mining and crafting vibe. As long as you've got 50 silver coins, you're good to go. Easy as pie.
