Easy peasy! You can get black thread in Terraria by buying it from the Clothier NPC at night. Just wait for nighttime in your game, find the Clothier wandering around your base or where you've housed him, and buy it for 5 silver coins. Make sure you've got a loom to use it with!

lol just buy it from the Clothier dude at night. 5 silver and it's yours. Don't overcomplicate it.
