From my experience, farming for the Fist of Darkness, then battling Darkbeard is the main challenge. He's tough, but totally worth it for the Dark Coat.
Farm Fists of Darkness, summon Darkbeard at the Dark Arena, and hope for good RNG. Boom, Dark Coat!
Simple answer: Defeat Darkbeard in the Second Sea after summoning him with a Fist of Darkness. Drop rate isn't 100%, so you might need a few tries.
You really just gotta farm for days and hope RNG is on your side.
