To unlock Falco, you can play through Classic Mode with Fox or certain other characters, or encounter him in the game's Adventure Mode, 'World of Light.' Good luck, and may the lasers be with you!
Hot take: If you're really impatient, you can use an Amiibo to unlock him instantly. No shame in that game.
I unlocked Falco by playing through VS Mode. After a bunch of matches, he showed up as a challenger. Just beat him and you're set!
