To unlock Ness in the original Super Smash Bros (N64), you need to complete 1P Game (Classic Mode) on Normal difficulty without using any continues. For Lucas, he's available as a DLC character in Super Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U and included by default in Super Smash Bros Ultimate!

You can get Ness by clearing certain modes or conditions in various games, like beating Classic Mode with no continues in Smash 64. Lucas will depend on the version; for example, he鈥檚 DLC in Smash 4 but automatically available in Ultimate.
