Yeah, you can only use Master Hand in World of Light. It's a kind of endgame thing, not a permanent unlock.

You can't actually play as Master Hand in the regular modes of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but you can control him in the World of Light adventure mode during a specific battle. Take down Galeem and Dharkon, and you'll get a chance to wield the power of Master Hand!

Playing as Master Hand? Sorry, but that's not happening outside of modding. However, in the World of Light mode, there's a part where you can control him briefly. Good luck!
