To unlock Meta Knight, you can also play Classic Mode. Start with Mario, beat it, then play and beat it with Sonic, and you'll unlock Meta Knight eventually. Happy smashing!

I unlocked Meta Knight by playing a ton of Vs. matches. After around 50-60, he popped up as a challenger. Beat him, and he's yours!
