Honestly, just be patient and keep upgrading your weapons. Qi will come eventually.
From my experience, focusing on bosses rather than regular enemies gives you more Qi. Bosses drop better rewards overall.
Defeating bosses and completing quests are your best bets for racking up Qi. Also, don't forget to upgrade your weapons regularly!
