For those who like quicker fixes, try pressing Shift + Tab while in-game, go to Settings, and turn off the GPU overlay from there.
You can also use Steam's Big Picture Mode, go to Settings, and turn it off from there. Trust me, it works like a charm. Enjoy your clutter-free screen!
