Just keep following the storyline! The cure comes eventually when you find the Sea Emperor. Patience is key.
To cure yourself of the infection, you'll need to progress through the story until you find the Sea Emperor Leviathan. Collect enzyme 42 from its babies and you'll be good as new!
The infection can be annoying, but it's part of the story. You'll get the cure by interacting with the Sea Emperor Leviathan's young.
Personal experience here - follow the story, meet the Sea Emperor and its babies, collect enzyme 42, and voila, infection cured! Trust me, it's worth it.
