In my experience, turning off notifications through the app settings worked like a charm. Haven't been interrupted since!

If you're on Android, go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Words with Friends and disable notifications from there. iPhone user? Head to Settings > Notifications > Words with Friends and toggle it off.
