You can get Shade to fight by equipping the Revenge precept mod on it! It allows Shade to attack enemies that harm you.

Shade comes with a precept mod called Ghost. It's more about stealth than fighting. Equip the Revenge mod if you want it to attack.

Honestly, Shade's better for stealth. If you're looking for more aggressive combat, try Dethcube or Helios instead.
