Early on, you'll have the option to select your house, so if you've got your heart set on Gryffindor, simply choose it when prompted. No need to answer riddles or impress the Sorting Hat!
I heard some folks trying to role-play the Sorting Hat ceremony, making choices in the game they think a Gryffindor would make, before realizing the game just lets you pick.
