If you want stars fast, aim to complete all the achievements in the story mode and versus mode. Some stars are hidden behind tougher challenges!
Weirdly enough, I found that replaying missions on higher difficulties got me stars quicker. So, crank up that difficulty if you're up for it!
Don't waste time. Just look up a guide. Seriously, there are so many stars and some are ridiculously hard to get otherwise.
