Then, just start roaming around your world. You can find Strange Plants on any type of surface block, so keep those peepers peeled. They're super bright and colorful, so you'll know when you see one. Just walk up to it and whack it with your pickaxe or sword to collect.

Listen, you don't NEED Strange Plants. It's all about the dyes, man. If you're into that, cool. But Terraria's got so much more to offer. Focus on building, exploring, and battling. Strange Plants are just a tiny part of a massive world!
Actually, it's all about where you look. Sure, Strange Plants can spawn anywhere, but I've had the best luck finding them in the Jungle and near the Ocean biomes. Maybe it's just me, but those spots seem to pop up Strange Plants like crazy. Just my two cents for those having a tough time finding them.
