Getting sturdy fossils in Terraria isn't as tough as it sounds! All you gotta do is head to the Underground Desert biome and start smashing the hardened sand blocks and rocks. You'll mostly need a good pickaxe because, without at least 70% pickaxe power, you're just gonna be tickling those blocks. So, arm yourself with something strong, like the Deathbringer Pickaxe or better, and start your archaeological dig!

Honestly, the easiest way to rack up sturdy fossils is to blast through the desert with bombs. Sure, you need a good pickaxe to collect them, but bombs will clear the area so much faster. Just make sure you've got plenty of inventory space, cause you'll be hauling back a ton of fossils.

Just go to the desert and mine, easy peasy. You need a decent pickaxe though, make sure it's up to scratch or you'll be there all day getting nothing.
