I tried the Nitrox Mod, and it worked pretty well for me! We swam around, got eaten by Reapers together, and had a blast!
Just a heads up, Subnautica doesn't officially support multiplayer, but there's a mod called Nitrox that lets you dive deep with friends.
No need for multiplayer; diving solo is the true Subnautica experience. Trust me!
