To find Synthesis Targets, talk to Cephalon Simaris at a Relay and get a Synthesis Scanner and traps from him. He'll give you a target to hunt down and scan. Follow the glowing trails and use the Scanner to track them down.

Just go to any relay, find Cephalon Simaris, and accept the Synthesis mission. Equip your Synthesis Scanner, and the game will pretty much lead you to your target.
Honestly, just don't bother! The grind isn't worth it unless you really need those standing points with Cephalon Simaris.
You can visit Cephalon Simaris at any relay to get Synthesis Scanner traps. Then, go to the mission type he suggests and use the Scanner to track your target. The glowing trail is your best friend!
