The trick is to stay close and never let up! Keep running through the middle of the square. You might not catch him immediately, but don't give up! Eventually, you'll be able to get close enough to breathe fire.

First, make sure to get a head start by using the charge attack and follow the thief around the square. Stick close to the inside corners to cut down his lead. When you get near, use Spyro's fire breath to nab him!
